We here at Momentum know how much the arts mean to you. If you have supported Momentum Dance Theatre in the past with a donation, ticket purchase or tuition, we are grateful to you. Believe me, in the arts it is always a struggle to survive--especially in the current economy--and we have managed to not only survive but thrive, due in large measure to you as an audience and/or contributor. We have spent the last 23 years bringing jazz, hip hop, modern dance and dance theater to diverse audiences through performance series such as our Jazz Hip Hop Nutcracker, outreach programs in DC Public Schools and community venues throughout the area and, of course our jazz hip hop training programs.
Now we are in preparation for our late spring concert series and our summer programs. Your support will enable us to continue to offer free tickets to social service organizations and scholarships to our year long and summer training programs.
Art costs money to produce! We are thrifty with our dollars but we need costumes, venue rental fees, technical professionals and administrative support to help us do our thing.
We are looking to increase our presence in the DC Public Schools, building on past programs such as "Dance In Its TIme" and our status as Community Based Organization in the DCPS Out of School time after school program.
Our past fundraising efforts have yielded ongoing support from teh Capitol Hill Community Foundation (for Jazz Hip Hop Nutcracker), Target and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (several grants).
Here are a few examples of where how we'll use your contribution to Momentum:
$50 2 children's costumes for Jazz, Hip Hop Nutcracker
$75 Partial scholarship for a Momentum Training Academy student;
$100 10 JHHN tickets for low income children
$100 2 teaching hours for a Guest Artist to work with Momentum students
$180 Scholarship for one student in a Momentum Summer Jazz Hip Hop Camp
$500 1 Momentum outreach performance for children
$800 Staff costs for a 10 week Dance In Its Time program
$1500 A full cast free performance of Jazz, Hip Hop Nutcracker at a DC public School.
We know a lot of organizations ask for your dollars. Money is tight; many of us are still feeling the effects of the recession. But please consider giving to Momentum; to help us spread our mission of quality dance education, outreach and performance. Your contributions help leverage corporate and foundation supporters and make a big difference in the lives of children, parents and our community!
