Roberta Rothstein Artistic Director Roberta Rothstein brings 25 years of teaching, performing and choreographing in New York, Chicago, Washington and Europe to her classes.  Born and raised in New York City, she trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.  She has studied with jazz masters, including Pepsi Bethel, Nat Horne, Lynn Simonson, Danny Buraszewski, Joe Lanteri and Lou Conte (founder of Hubbard Street Chicago).  She has danced with the Joel Hall Dancers, Bill T. Jones, Talley Beatty, David Holmes and in musical theater, cabaret and industrial shows.  Her choreography has been seen in national television commercials, at the Joyce/Soho in New York, at the Maryland Festival of the Arts, at Dance Place and Living Stage, among others.  She is the founder and Artistic Director of Momentum Dance Theatre and director and choreographer of its popular Jazz, Hip Hop Nutcracker.  She has been on the faculties of George Washington and American Universities, the Washington Ballet, Jones-Haywood School of Ballet, Arlington Center for Dance, Joe’s Movement Emporium and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, where she heads the dance and fitness department.  She has received grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Montgomery County Council on the Arts. Kim Curtis Associate Director Associate Director Kim Curtis is an accomplished actor as well as dancer. He has appeared with the Washington Opera, Fraudulent Productions, LeNeon Theater and Cherry Red Productions as well as movies such as "Random Hearts". He brings an integrative approach to his acting and dance workshops, with special attention to use of the voice. Rob Orwin President Rob Orwin received a degree in Composition from Chicago Musical College in 1975, and played keyboards in wedding, jazz, and western swing bands in the late ‘70s.  Since moving to D.C. in 1983, he has composed, produced, and recorded works in various genres, including a soundscape for the Traveling Shakespeare Company's "Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Folger Theatre. He has performed in several theatrical productions of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop ("Rhapsody in Rhythm and Rhyme," "Working," "Gorey Stories"). In 1999, he co-founded the Brazilian jazz group Brazil ’99 (subsequently Brazil on the Hill) and produced their CD. In 2001 the group was expanded to a quintet and rechristened as Banda Travessia. He has collaborated with Ms. Rothstein and other Washington-area choreographers, including Maida Withers and Joe Drayton. He has been resident composer of Momentum Dance Theatre since 1986.
